Ma Pont Bookshop
Bilingual (EN/MM) e-commerce PWA for a three-branch Yangon bookshop. Customers order school textbooks and literature anonymously — no account, the order slip auto-downloads with a tracking code — while staff run catalogue, stock counts, orders, sales reports and thermal receipt vouchers through a role-based admin dashboard.
Ma Pont Bookshop — Bilingual Bookstore PWA with Anonymous Ordering
An installable e-commerce PWA for a three-branch Yangon bookshop (est. 2018) — customers browse Grade 1–12 school textbooks, novels, and educational titles in Burmese or English and order without creating an account.
Overview
Ma Pont is a long-running physical bookshop that needed online sales without forcing accounts on customers who are used to ordering by phone and Viber. The storefront removes every sign-up barrier: browse, add to cart, order anonymously with delivery details — and the moment an order is placed, its slip downloads automatically with the order code, so the proof of purchase lives on the customer's phone, not behind a login. Staff manage the catalogue, stock, and orders through a role-based admin dashboard, and every online order can print as a thermal receipt voucher that fits the counter workflow the shop already runs. Delivered end-to-end in seven weeks from accepted quotation to launch.
Key Features
- Anonymous ordering — No account, no sign-up: customers order with delivery details and track status by order code. Removes the single biggest checkout barrier for local buyers
- Auto-downloaded order slip — The slip saves to the customer's device the moment an order is placed, carrying the order code and items: an account-free receipt they can screenshot, share on Viber, or show at the counter
- Bilingual EN/MM — Full storefront and catalogue in Burmese and English, switchable everywhere
- Catalogue & discovery — Categories, book series, authors, related books, bestsellers, and instant
⌘Ksearch across titles and authors - Installable PWA — Works as an app on mobile and desktop from a single web codebase
- Role-based admin dashboard — Staff roles with scoped permissions (RBAC) over books, stock counts, orders, and sales reports
- Thermal receipt vouchers — Online orders print on the shop's thermal printer, bridging web orders into the existing counter routine
- SEO-ready — Per-book pages with structured metadata, OpenGraph images, and localized titles
Key Technical Decisions
- Anonymous checkout over user accounts — The shop's buyers order by phone and Viber; an account wall would have killed adoption. The auto-downloaded slip carries the order code, so tracking needs no identity and losing the tab loses nothing
- PWA over a native app — One codebase, installable on any device, no app-store friction for a customer base that discovers the shop through Facebook and TikTok
- CMS-backed admin instead of a bespoke panel — Payload collections give staff CRUD, access control, and an audit surface without maintaining a second application
Tech Stack
Frontend: Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, PWA install + EN/MM i18n
